geeky knits

Hey, it’s up. Sort of. So check it out! It’s somewhat colorful (compared to this site). And no forwarding because it’s a separate domain/site from this one. And it costs money to forward.

1×1 rib

Is it just me, or is 1×1 rib sooooo incredibly tedious? I much prefer 2×2.
Anyway, one of my current projects calls for 20 rows of 1×1 rib.

More knitting content to come soon, I hope…

Blah, Blogger

Remember how I have that other blog over on blogger? I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks, and I am not very happy with it. In fact, it is probably soon to be deleted. I just can’t stand blogger. WordPress has so many more features that I like.
I made a whole photoshop exploration of the interfaces, which is probably unnecessary. So I’ll just let that one go.

It is very likely that I am going to convert this blog into an actual hosted site with a domain soon. I am trying to get myself to “sleep on it”, rather than make another impulsive decision, but I guess I’ve been thinking about it for a while. So expect some sort of official announcement soon.

And I’ve been knitting. See?

New Things

I’ve added some new spiffy things to the blog!
First up, some Japanese. My blog is now called “毬藻が大好き” or, I like marimo, in English. I thought it was fitting, considering the URL of this blog.
It’s probably the only Japanese you’ll see, unless I’m working from a Japanese pattern.

Next, I have installed some widgets on the right hand side. So far, I have really cool progress bars, and a list of future projects. Eventually, I’ll have a list of things completed in 2009, but I want to block some projects first, and take some nicer pictures. So you’ll probably see that pop up next month.

Oh, and my blogroll disappeared. I’m still deciding who and what I want to link to. So stay tuned.

Yup.

And there you have it.

Once again, I think I am preparing for a break from wordpress.
But I’ve been knitting. And working on World of Warcraft. (Finally level 70!)
(Mostly) working hard at work.
But maybe I feel like all I want to post here are:
a) recent yarn acquisitions,
b) pictures and details of finished objects,
c) other knitting & craft-related things.

While I am on hiatus, I’ll be blogging at relaxbear.blogspot.com. My personal journal, to be exact. Not super personal; I have a locked livejournal for that. But you know, mundane-life-stuff personal.
I am happy, because anything goes there. So that will be for the other stuff, and this journal will be for the knitting and crafting stuff. I think I might have to change the name of this one again. Darn, why is it so hard to name journals? Man, I am going to miss WordPress, though. There are just so many features that are better over here. But I had an old blogspot account just kind of wasting internet space, so I figured I might as well use it again. And there you have it.

Plans for February

I’m excited for February.

Making my friends cards for Valentine’s Day will be fun. (Would you like a card? Let me know.)
Black History Month should be good. I wonder what I’ll do personally to celebrate…
[On a side note, when I was attending my first college, Cal State Monterey Bay, I was in the Black Student Union. I lived next door to the president, and we got along very well. She suggested I come to the meetings, and eventually I worked my way up to being Vice-President. We did many things to commemorate the occasion, such as hosting a talent show (I played Eazy-E in a skit once), a Knowledge Bowl (Black History trivia), movie nights, soul food in the Dining Commons, and much more. I'll remember all those things for a long time. ]
Maybe I’ll make some sort of craft.
I’ll be busy working on swaps, too. I’m in two so far: The Odd Duck Swaps group on Ravelry has a swap called I Am An Odd Duck (About MEEEEE!! Swap). I am going to spoil my Norwegian pal with my favorite pattern, yarn, snack, and knitting notions. I hope I can find some cool American stuff she wouldn’t get to see normally. I’m also participating in the Ravelry Scarf Exchange. I’ve picked out a pattern, and I am buying the yarn today.
Lastly, I signed up as part of a collaborative knitting/crocheting/spinning project called The Milkweed Project. If you’re crafty, why don’t you take part as well? I think the organizer is still taking participants.
All that stuff should keep me busy for a while. Not to mention I might be taking ukulele lessons. My ukulele has been dusty for too long.

Visit my work’s Etsy site!

So I worked super hard compiling the content for my job’s etsy site. I’d love if you or someone you know went to the site and bought something you like. Our handmade books, letterpressed coasters, and door hangers make great gifts. Check it out!

Is it possible to be burned out on knitting? Yes, I think so. I am. Tried starting many different projects the last few days and wasn’t really into any of them. However, I am making slow progress on Glenn’s scarf. I bought some more yarn for it on Sunday. That’s going to be one expensive scarf. I plan on having it done in March sometime. We’ll see.

I don’t have much else to say right now, but I just watched the inauguration with my co-workers and it was very exciting.

P.S. It just occurred to me that my favorite widgets don’t work with this layout style. Oh well. When I get my CSS together, I’ll make my own style, and include lots of fun stuff.

I’m back, sort of.

I haven’t been up to much lately. Still recovering from traveling (went to L.A., Vancouver, and Eugene in two weeks!) and getting back into the swing of things here at work.
I haven’t even been knitting much. I didn’t knit for two or three days. Usually I knit every day, so that should let you know how tired I am.
I’ve been feeling like I’m catching a cold, and I have had really bad headaches for the past few days. So I won’t push myself to do anything major.
This week, I am starting the 4th season of the new series of Doctor Who. I am also reading Twilight. I’ll probably be finished with the book tomorrow. Oh, how I love them vampires.
I haven’t even uploaded all my holiday pictures. I’ve been meaning to for a few days, but when I get home, all I want to do is sleep and feed myself. And then cuddle with the boy when he gets home from school.

Other things on my mind lately:
Bookmaking! I used to make books in art school (in fact, I preferred it to my photo major), and I haven’t made one in years. I managed to get ahold of a copy of “How To Make Books”, by Esther K. Smith. As soon as I get some thread, a bone folder, and stacks of paper, I’ll be in business again! It’ll be just like old times.

My MFA. I am definitely going to start working on my portfolio soon, and apply for Fall 2010. I don’t know where I am going, or what my major will be, but that will all be figured out soon.

Next post should include the birthday cowl I’m working on. Have a great weekend!

P.S. I read this article about slow stashing, and it’s really great. Perhaps a more feasible alternative to going on a complete yarn diet. I mean, I’m not planning on buying any yarn anytime soon, but I might need some to fill out some projects, larger ones like sweaters. Plus, you gotta help out the LYS in times like these. I would be so sad if my favorite Seattle/Bellevue shops closed. Maybe I’ll resolve to buy local instead of online when I do eventually buy, to support to brick and mortar stores.
